CA’s tallest Volcano • 14,171’ • Mt. Shasta, CA

“Mama Shasta” sits at the southern edge of the Cascades, towering over Northern CA. Thought to be the Root Chakra of the Earth by some, and the home of the Lemurians (aliens) by others, adventuring on Shasta comes with mysticism and lore. Not to mention, Shasta is home to amazing geology, which provides for an incredible amount of ski/splitboarding terrain. Terrain ranges from treed glades to low angle open bowls, to steep chutes at high elevations. It’s our absolute favorite place to explore in May, and we’d love to have you join us!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The most common question we get! Since these are ski/split mountaineering trips, we think basing trip choice off of ski/ride ability is paramount. We love pushing ourselves in the mountains, but we don’t want to put ourselves into a dangerous situation. Reach out if you have further questions!

  • Yes, snow camping! It’s such a fun and unique experience. While we are camping on snow, by May, temperatures are often warmer. We may even have dirt to camp on. We will be camping at elevation though, between 8000’ - 10,000’.

We’ll teach you everything you need to know, and can help get you sorted with gear.

We get cold easily, and comfort is of utmost importance to us too. We’ll share all our tips and tricks :)

  • Weather and volcanos go hand in hand. Volcanos are known for unpredictable weather. There are plenty of options for us to meet our trip goals, even with weather. If weather or conditions are too extreme, we have options.

We can pivot - stay in town and get up on the mountain each day. If we truly can’t get up on the mountain, we can go rock climbing, mountain biking, indulge in the mysticisms of Mt. Shasta, go mushroom hunting in the lowlands, explore hot springs, or pivot and head to a different venue within a 2 hr driving distance.

If we are able to, we may offer the ability to alter trip dates, or provide a credit to you for a future Tracks of Her Own trip.

We can’t control the weather, and it’s a part of the game, but we will do our best to work with you!

We recommend trip insurance for all Mt. Shasta trips :)
