1 Day Women’s Avalanche Rescue Course
“Avalanche rescue is a perishable skill. Practice like your partners depend on it — because they do.”
Even if you’ve pledged not to travel in avalanche terrain - anything can happen at any time. Avalanche terrain is not always obvious, or large, but the consequences of being involved in, or witnessing an avalanche, can be dire. Set yourself up for success and learn the skills necessary to perform a rescue quickly and effectively!
Our Women’s 1 Day Avalanche Rescue Course will walk you through an avalanche rescue from start to finish. We’ll first go over individual skills, like transceiver searches, probing, and strategic shoveling. Then, we’ll learn various strategies for actively performing the rescue. We’ll run through multiple practice scenarios so we can really fine tune our skillset and understanding.
Recent research suggests that trauma now accounts for nearly 50% of avalanche fatalities in U.S. backcountry accidents. Unlike most avalanche rescue courses, we'll finish the day going over basic post-rescue first aid and evacuation procedures.

We’ll meet at the trailhead @ 8 am. We’ll dive into the specifics of using our avalanche safety gear (beacon, shovel, probe) and practice how to use each entity on its own. We’ll then run through practice scenarios! Single burial, multiple burial, single rescuer, multiple rescuers, etc! As time allows, we’ll go over basic first aid principles in relation to what to do after the rescue, and how to get everyone safely out of the backcountry. We’ll finish the day between 3 & 4 pm.
