sample itinerary
Day 1 - Your first day will be spent traveling from the western slopes of Sequoia National Park over to the Eastern Sierra via a shuttle service that is included in the cost of your trip. Ideally, we will hike a couple of miles in the afternoon and set up camp for the eve en route to Shepherds Pass.
Day 2 - This will be one of the more challenging days as far as endurance is concerned as we will be looking to ascend Shepherds Pass. Day 2 has us camping just above or below Shepherds Pass.
Day 3 - 6 - Finishing the climb over Shepherd’s Pass we enter Sequoia National Park and descend across the Tyndall Plateau and towards Milestone Basin and the Great Western Divide. We will pass by Triple Divide Peak, Deadman Canyon, the Kings/Kaweah Divide and make our way down into the Tablelands. Depending on group strengths and conditions there may be time for some additional afternoon descents after setting up camps. We don’t list exact distances and camping spots along this section as it is crucial to keep the itinerary flexible to account for weather and other conditions.
Depending on fitness and conditions, we will plan to take the best route through this terrain to maximize 1. Safety & 2. Ski quality as we move across the range.
Day 7 - Your final day of the High Sierra Traverse has you traveling through the Pear Lake area, and skiing to the Wolverton parking lot where you originally began your trip.
Altogether the High Sierra Traverse is roughly 42+ miles with over 16,500’ feet of elevation gain.
who this trip is for?
Ability Level: Advanced
Ladies, this one is rugged. California doesn’t have an extensive hut system, which means we’ll be snow camping. If you have yet to camp on snow, that’s ok! We’re happy to help get you sorted. We request you commit to camping on snow for a night (be it guided or in the backyard) to test “personal preferences” and personal gear before the trip begins.
This is a high endurance trip, requiring long days and technical travel. Thus, we require a minimum of 2 years of experience with backcountry skiing and/ or splitboarding.
You will need to be able to travel 3000’ vert and an average of 6 miles a day (total, includes up and down). Another way to think about it: We’ll be walking/skiing/riding for 6 - 8 hours a day for multiple days in a row!
You must have experience with using an ice axe/crampons. If not, we require a ski/splitboard mountaineering course before this trip.
NOT SURE IF YOU’RE QUALIFIED FOR THIS TRIP? REACH OUT!
WE’ll work with you to get you sorted.

Weather, Itinerary & Schedule Policy
Weather & Road Conditions: Tracks of Her Own is not responsible for poor weather, bad road conditions, or road closures. We run trips in inclement weather! Unless you receive explicit notice of cancellation from us, please assume your trip is running as planned and arrive on time.
Trip Alterations & Adaptations: In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, we reserve the right to reschedule or alter the trip itinerary. Canceling a trip is always our absolute last resort—we will make every effort to adapt and run the trip safely in an alternate venue or route.
Company Cancellations & Safety Decisions
Our Decision to Run: Safety is our highest priority. Objective hazards (such as high avalanche risk, severe weather, or staffing changes) are evaluated continuously by our professional guides. The decision to run, modify, or cancel a trip rests solely with Tracks of Her Own.
If We Cancel: In the rare event that Tracks of Her Own determines conditions are unsafe and must cancel a trip, you will have the choice between a 100% full cash refund or a 100% credit toward any future trip.
If You Choose Not to Attend: If Tracks of Her Own determines a trip is safe to run, but you choose not to attend due to weather, personal risk tolerance, or forecast concerns, our standard Participant Cancellation Policy applies. (This is why we strongly recommend travel insurance!)
External Expenses: Tracks of Her Own is not responsible for non-refundable external expenses incurred by participants (such as airfare, lodging, travel insurance, or personal equipment).
Due to the extremely remote and technical nature of this trip, we cap our ratio for this trip at 1:3 to maximize safety, fun, and smooth group dynamics.
