Heck ya! But, how do you get up there? What about avalanche hazard? What if it’s icy? Route finding? Ropes, do you need those?
Step into steeper terrain with expert female coaching and approachable progression in our 2 Day Ski/Splitboard Mountaineering Course in the Eastern Sierra!
This comprehensive 2 day course is the only of it’s kind, and has been specially designed by our experienced female mountain professionals to emphasize:

empowerment

high level learning and skill development

It’s also been designed to specifically address some of the unique skillsets women bring into this sport.

Day 1: The Basics
8 am - Meet @ Trailhead
Spend the day learning the basics! We’ll go over when, where, and how to set a boot pack, use ski crampons, boot crampons, ice axe, techniques for steep travel uphill and downhill, and practice self arrest and other skills required for safe travel in steep terrain.
2:30/3 pm: - Debrief @ Trailhead
Day 2: Approachable Progression - Ski Mountaineering Tour
6 am - Meet @ Trailhead (time may vary depending on objective & conditions)
We’ll spend the day getting into real ski mountaineering terrain, putting to use the skills we’ve learned in real time. We’ll have an all - time ski descent in big mountain terrain!
4 pm - Debrief @ Trailhead (timing may vary depending on objective and conditions)

Day 1 – Technical Foundations in Steep Terrain
Advanced skinning and efficient track setting for steep approaches
Bootpacking techniques and transitions between modes
Self-arrest practice and fall management
Tactics for skiing/riding safely in high-consequence terrain
Movement practice in a supervised, low-risk, low-consequence setting
Day 2 – Application & Terrain Progression
Applying movement skills in steeper, more complex terrain
Integrating decision-making, hazard assessment, and terrain evaluation
Identifying safe zones, anchor points, and escape options
Group management and communication in exposed terrain
Strategies for balancing fear, confidence, and humility in high-stakes environments

Who this course is for:
Femme+ Humans with 10+ Backcountry Tours under their belt.
Completed Avalanche Level 1 Training or equivalent training*
Must be confident skiing off groomers on black runs.
Moderate level fitness (able to be outside, moving at a conversational pace for multiple hours a day)
expect 2000’ - 3500’ vert up and down over the course of the second touring day!

After booking through our site, you can expect to receive a confirmation email from us within 24 hours that payment has been successfully received, and your spot is reserved!
We’ll follow up with a welcome email full of information about your trip, with gear lists/rental info, waivers to sign, etc.
A week before the course we’ll follow up with further details, like weather and trailhead specifics. We wait to pick a trailhead so we can capitalize on the best current conditions for touring and our learning objectives.

We recommend purchasing trip insurance to protect your purchase from unforeseeable circumstances. If you wish to cancel your trip for any reason, a request must be made in writing via EMAIL.
GENERAL:
Trips are refundable minus a 20% admin fee until 60 Days before departure.
Trips are NON REFUNDABLE 60 days or fewer before trip departure.
If you’d like to inquire about putting down a deposit, we can accept a 30% non-refundable deposit for courses and trips. Reach out via Email, and we will set this up. Full payment will be due 60 Days before departure. Trips are NON REFUNDABLE 60 days or fewer before trip departure.
TRIP INSURANCE can be purchased to help cover the trip fees and other costs incurred under the policy. Regardless of which plan you purchase, make sure you have adequate coverage. Tracks of Her Own is not responsible for poor weather and bad and or closed road conditions. We run trips in inclement weather! Unless specifically canceled, please assume the trip will run and arrive at the program venue on time.
